If you want to survive these times, and they are probably going to become more turbulent as the change metrics cascade and multiply, plugging into the 24 hour news cycle and being constantly bombarded by new events, new disturbances, new outrages is not going help you.
In fact, it's going break you down and weaken you. And if most or many people are doing the same thing it's also going to weaken society and going to weaken whatever steps can be taken to make positive changes.
The spiritual practice of cultivating a space within oneself of peace and calm, of perspective and objectivity as I see it is now no longer an optional but a necessary endeavour.
So I implore you (and me) to take time out away from our screens, away from the world and what's happening in the world, and find an inner and/or outer sanctuary whether that's in nature, or meditating or whether that's simply sitting quietly and being with oneself. Whatever and wherever you can find peace and calm that allows you to get some distance from what's happening and not just be churned up by it is now an essential survival tactic.
Please find that sanctuary circuit-breaker and go there every day. Be there every day. Even ten minutes, twice a day. We have to find a space outside of what's happening in the world to just be. To once again become aware of something far deeper and more stable and nourishing than ever-changing current events and the emotional turmoil they generate. Cultivate and protect that space so that the worldly dimension doesn’t oppress and crush you and so you always have access to and know where to go to catch your breath and find calm, sanity, perspective and maybe even happiness.
